HIGH POINT — In the 2020 season opener for both teams, High Point Christian Academy defeated Metrolina Christian Academy 40-21 on Thursday.

HPCA racked up more than 500 yards of offense, led by senior QB Luke Homol, who accounted for six TDs, according to highschoolot.com. Homol completed 11-of-14 passes for 273 yards and four touchdowns and also rushed for 114 yards and two TDs.

Metrolina junior Caleb Titherington had an interception on defense and also caught a 4-yard TD pass from senior QB Ryan McEvoy. Senior Joe Dilly scored on a 10-yard run and McEvoy also threw a 25-yard TD pass to senior Brian Kearns.

Metrolina Christian eliminated HP Christian Academy in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association’s Division 2 playoffs in each of the past two years.

Metrolina Christian was 8-4 last year and won the Piedmont Football Conference with a 4-0 record.

High Point Christian Academy placed second in the conference (3-1) and also finished the year 8-4 in 2019.

Metrolina travels to Georgia in Week 2, facing Rabun Gap-Nacoochee on Oct. 2 starting at 7 p.m.
