Thursday was a relatively uneventful night across Union County in volleyball, as all but one county team was involved in a sweep.
The Forest Hill volleyball team was the only county team to play more than three sets Thursday night. The Yellow Jackets, who were coming off a 3-0 loss to West Stanly on Tuesday, outlasted Montgomery Central in five sets, 3-2, at home Thursday night. Central Academy, the other county team in the Rocky River 2A Conference, was swept by West Stanly on Thursday.
In the Southern Carolina Conference, Marvin Ridge continued its league dominance with a 3-0 sweep of Cuthbertson. The Mavericks (2-0) have now won 120 of their past 121 regular season matches against conference opponents.
Also earning sweeps Thursday were Sun Valley, which defeated Parkwood, 3-0, and Weddington — which only allowed 20 total points in their sweep of Monroe. Also in the SCC on Thursday, Charlotte Catholic swept Piedmont.
At the 4A level, Porter Ridge improved to 2-0 Thursday with a sweep of Butler.
