Joyce Dean Helms Trull, 74 passed away peacefully at home on January 9, 2021. She was surrounded by loving family. Joyce was born December 29, 1946 to Lawrence Egar Helms and Lena Belk Helms in Union County NC. She is child number 6 of 13, She felt blessed to have her brothers and sisters to share her childhood. She proudly boasted being a tomboy and enjoyed tussling with her brothers and fishing with them. A t-shirt and stretch pants were her favorite attire throughout her life.

Her 12 siblings are: Martha Francis Helms, Shirley Jean Helms, Lawrence Helms Jr, Linda Sue Ehrheart Joe Neil Helms, Donald Wayne Helms, Sandra Kay Hobbs, Jackie Lynn Helms, Patsy Lee Bullock, Debbie Louise Elkins, Toni Diane Flener and Bobby Jean Helms.

At a young age, Joyce met and fell in love with Charles Dean Trull Sr (JIM). They were wed on April 7, 1961. They were married for fifty two love filled years until his death in 2013. She spent most of her time raising her children, daughters Barbara Trull, Lora Trull Eustace and son Charles Dean (Carol)Trull Jr.

Joyce was happy to have been given such a large family to spoil. Her six grandchildren are: Conseluo (Raymundo)Lucas, Teresa (Jason) Barnett, Crystal (Juan Arellano) Gomez and Elizabeth (Josue) Diaz, Briana (RC) Brunstetter and Ryan Eustace. Nine great grandchildren: Brandon Melchor, Mackenzie Acosta, Joscelin Arellano, Isabella Lucas, Bradley Oster, Lily Oster, Chandler Barnett, Junior Diaz and Laila Diaz.

Joyce enjoyed staying at home and working on one of her hobbies. Her hobbies included making people smile, cross stitch, cooking for her family and friends, reading and gardening. She also enjoyed music and successfully helped her husband run “The Grand Lil Opry” near their home for many years. She began driving a school bus for Union County at age 32 and continued for the next 28 years before retiring. Even during her long battle she was able to keep a sense of humor for family, friends, caregivers and hospital staff.

Visitation and service will be Wednesday January 13, 2021 at Open Book Baptist Church. Visitation starts at 10:00 a.m. followed by the service at 11:00 a.m. Burial follows at Lakeland Cemetery in Monroe.
