Johanna Barbara Wallace, “Jo / Johanna the Momma / Oma”, 84, of Indian Trail, NC, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2021 in Monroe, NC. Johanna was born in Bobrek-Karf, Germany on December 1, 1936, to the late Rudolph and Magdalena Woschniok.

She was a wonderful mother, loving wife, devoted Oma, and friend to many. She possessed a true sense of adventure, courageous spirit, and positive outlook on life even in the most difficult of times.

Following the end of World War II the Woschniok family would settle in Nuremburg, Germany and begin the journey to rebuild their lives and country. Johanna and older siblings Peter and Renate would look for work where possible, attend trade school and watch over their younger twin brothers Gerhardt and Jorg. In the early 1950’s she would meet her future husband Eddys Joe Wallace, wed in 1956, and begin a 50 years odyssey ending with Eddys passing in 2006. Eddys would spend 22 years in the Army including tours in World War II, Korea and Vietnam (First Infantry Division, The Big Red One). Eddys and Johanna’s military adventures would take them to White Sands, New Mexico where they would cross the border into Juarez, Mexico, go dancing in the local cantina’s and welcome their first child daughter Victoria (Vicki) in 1960. Next would be Nuremburg, Germany where their son Edwin would join them in 1962, and then finally Fort Sill, Oklahoma where their youngest son Jerry arrived in 1966. Following his return from Vietnam in 1970 Eddys retired from the military and relocated the family to Charlotte, NC and later Indian Trail where they resided the remainder of their lives.

Eddys and Johanna loved camping, many family vacations were spent at Lakewood and Ocean Lakes campgrounds in Myrtle Beach, SC. Johanna was a great cook (even if she was somewhat secretive with her recipes), enjoyed the summer garden, flowers, and spoiling her dogs. In later years with her health waning she still maintained a fiery independent streak, and continued to enjoy socializing with visitors over a glass of wine literally up to her passing.

Johanna was preceded in death by her husband Eddys, daughter Vicki, son Jerry Lee, brother Peter Woschniok, (Furth, Germany), and sister Renate Woschniok Gandy (Stallings, NC).

Johanna is survived by son and daughter-in-law Edwin and Lisa Stilwell Wallace of Fort Collins, Colorado; grandchildren Olivia Wallace of Fort Collins, Erika Helms of San Francisco, Brandon Helms (spouse Sarah) of Charlotte, NC; and brothers Gerhardt Woschniok and Jorg Woschniok of Erding, Germany.
