Charles William Anderson, 87, of Monroe, NC passed away Friday, September 3, 2021. He was born December 31, 1933 in Marion County, Iowa, a son of the late Charles Henry and Vera May Anderson.
Chuck is a graduate of Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa, where he earned a B.S. in Chemistry. He worked at Westinghouse, Micarta Division in Pittsburgh, PA.
Chuck was a member of the Monroe Civitan Club where he served as president from 2012-2014 where he initiated building wheelchair ramps which continue to this day. He was an active member of Central United Methodist Church, he served in many capacities, was the Chairperson of the Property Committee where he was called upon to repair anything. He was a Stephen Minister and also a member of the United Methodist Men.
His past interest included being Master of his Masonic Lodge in Arlington Hts, IL, past president of the Shriners Unit, Mini Bikes in Richmond, IL. This unit rode in approximately 15 parades a year to raise money for the Shriner’s Hospital.
Chuck and his wife Edie started an Austin-Healey Club in Chicago in 1961. They were founders of the Austin-Healey Club of America in 1976. It is a national club with over 3800 members all over the world. He went on to serve as President. They have been active their whole lives and enjoyed knowing wonderful members from around the country and the world. Chuck & Edie where inducted into the British Sports Car Hall of Fame in 2018.
Chuck had a successful working career of over 40 years in the insurance industry. He was a member of the Illinois Jaycees, Elks Club, Scoutmaster, Past President of the Mt. Prospect Illinois Speed Skating Club.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at Central United Methodist Church and will be announced by Gordon Funeral Service.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 63 years, Edythe Bell Anderson, a son, Charles David Anderson (Dana) of Norman, OK, Janis Lynn Maurer (Dennis) of Monroe, two sisters, Myrna Anderson of Knoxville, IA, Merribell Visser of Knoxville, IA, and seven grandchildren .
