Union County Public Schools is putting in safety measures to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus. The first optional teacher workday is Thursday, Aug. 6, and the first day of school for students in the traditional calendar is Aug. 17.

MONROE — Almost 8,000 students (18.6% of the student population) have opted in for Union County Public Schools “Plan D” virtual academy for the fall semester of 2020. For those who have decided to move forward with “Plan B”, which includes one day a week of on-campus learning, UCPS officials have been working on precautions to help reduce the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

The first optional teacher workday for UCPS is Thursday, Aug. 6, and the first required teacher workday is Aug. 11, according to the district’s Academic Calendar for 2020-21.

The first day for students who attend a traditional-calendar school is Aug. 17.

“Personal protective equipment and other safety items are being delivered to schools this week!” UCPS reported on July 29 through its Twitter account (@UCPSNC). “ UCPS also announced through Twitter that PPE has been delivered for nurses to all 53 schools in the district.
