MONROE — The Monroe Police Department (MPD) arrested Cory McDowell, a 35-year-old English teacher at Central Academy of Technology and Arts (CATA) with a charge of Indecent Liberties by a Teacher with a Student on Thursday (June 9), according to a report from the City of Monroe’s communications department.

On May 25, MPD initiated an investigation after they received information about a teacher at Central Academy of Technology and Arts (CATA) engaging in inappropriate behavior with a student. After an investigation by Monroe detectives, McDowell was arrested. McDowell went before a magistrate and received a secured bond.

The Monroe Police Department is working with Union County Public Schools as the investigation continues.
