UNION COUNTY — Candidate filings for the Nov. 2 municipal election are rolling in. Tuesday, July 13, at 5 p.m. was the last chance candidates could withdraw from the municipal elections. Possible candidates have until Friday, July 16 at noon to file at the Board of Elections office (316-B E Windsor St, Monroe).

The contest with the largest number of candidates is the Town of Mineral Springs Council having six candidates — Nicholas Altherr; Jerry Countryman, Janet Critz, Chelsey Felts, Richard Melvin Helms Jr. and Bettylyn Kraft.

There is an unexpired term on the Mineral Springs council held by James Muller.

Mineral Springs Mayor Rick Becker is running again.

Conversely, no one has filed for Town of Unionville Mayor, per a document sent from the Board of Elections. Andrew C. Benton is the only candidate for Town of Unionville Commissioner thus far.

Town of Waxhaw Commissioners contest has three returning faces: Brenda Byrd-McMillion, Jason Hall and Tracy Wesolek.

The City of Monroe Council also has some familiar faces: Gary Anderson (former councilmember), Michele King (who ran in 2019 for council). Julie Thompson is a newcomer to the city council contest.

So far, incumbent Mayor of Monroe Bobby Kilgore has not filed for mayor. Candidates for mayor are current council members Marion Holloway and Angelia James. Bob Yanacsek is throwing his hat into the ring again after running in the last election for mayor.

Town of Fairview Council contest has two contestants: Jerry Clontz and Patricia Helms Kindley.

Town of Indian Trail Council has three candidates: Clarence Edward Alsobrooks Jr., Tom Amburgey and Cade Batchelor.

Returning Mayor of Lake Park David Cleveland is running again as is James Record for mayor. Village of Lake Park Council has three candidates — Mark Richards, Grace Stanley and Steve Tutor.

Incumbent Mayor of Marshville Larry B. Smith Jr. is the only candidate for the mayoral race at this time. There are no candidates for Marshville council.

There are no candidates for Mayor of Marvin at this time, but there are two candidates for council — Wayne Deatherage and Brandi Smith.

Amanda Fuller, who is the interim mayor of Wesley Chapel, is running to be elected as mayor. There are three candidates for Wesley Chapel council — Deb Coates Bledsoe, Mike Como and Richard Stephens.

So far, Thomas Jefferson Legrand is the only candidate who has filed for Town of Wingate Commissioner.

Running for Hemby Bridge Alderman are Kevin Pressley and Rodney Mullis.
