WAXHAW — Ericka McKnight is running for public office again. She is running for House 68, which is currently occupied by Craig Horn, who has served five terms. Last year, she ran for mayor of Waxhaw and said the support she received motivated her to continue vying for a seat in local politics.

MONROE — David Williams, narrowly defeated incumbent Union County Commissioner Frank Aikmus in the primary on Tuesday, Mar. 3.

MONROE — The 2020 primary election will be held in Union County on Tuesday, March 3, from 6:30 a.m. until 7:30 p.m.

MONROE — Greg Gebhardt is one of nine Republican candidates running for lieutenant governor. There are 15 total candidates running for second in command of the state.

MONROE — One-stop early voting for the March 3 primary election begins on Thursday, Feb. 13, and ends on Feb. 29 at seven locations in Union County.

Six potential constitutional amendments will appear on the November ballot for voters in North Carolina to decide.

There are seven candidates in the Union County Board of County Commissioners republican primary. Voters will be asked to choose three candidates. Steven Davis is running as a democrat and will appear on the ballot in November with the three top vote getters from Tuesday.

Incumbent Sheriff Eddie Cathey is facing a primary challenge from Brian Crump. No democrats filed to run, so the winner of Tuesday's primary will be unchallenged in November.

Filing for the 2018 election opened Monday at the Union County Board of Elections, 316 E. Windsor St. in Monroe and will run until noon on Feb. 28. The primary is in May and Election Day is Nov. 6.

The Supreme Court issued an order Thursday telling the North Carolina General Assembly it did not have to redraw Congressional district lines before next week’s deadline.

The Town of Indian Trail has three new council members following the Nov. 7 elections. Jerry Morse, Mike Head, and Monty Keistler will be replacing current council members Gary Evans, Gordon Daniels and Gary Savoie.

It was a tight race on Election Day in Waxhaw and there will potentially be three new faces on the Waxhaw Board of Commissioners. A discretionary recount of the race will be conducted on Tuesday (Nov. 14) at the Union County Board of Elections at noon.
