Day named to Symphony Orchestra
GREENVILLE, SC — Zachary Day, of Monroe, NC, was recently named to the 2020 Bob Jones University Symphony Orchestra (BJUSO), according to a report from the school. Day is a junior majoring in Computer Science at BJU.
The mission of the BJUSO, one of three orchestras at BJU, is to inspire artistic excellence in performance as a display of God’s glory and His gifts to man. Auditions are open to all students at the university, regardless of academic major.
The 43-member symphony gives students an opportunity to explore a wide variety of chamber works, opera, musical theatre, symphonic pops, and sacred music literature.
The 2020-2021 season’s performances include Concerto and Aria Contest Showcase Concert, featuring the 2020 winning soloists performing with the BJUSO (Sep. 18) and Beethoven’s 6th Symphony (Oct. 9).
3 locals achieve University of Alabama honors
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — A total of 506 students enrolled during the 2020 summer term at the University of Alabama were named to the Dean’s List with an academic record of 3.5 or above or the President’s List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A’s), including three with local ties.
Alyssa Gutierrez, of Matthews, made the President’s List; Dylan Garris, of Indian Trail, made the Dean’s List; and Madalyn Kostur, of Matthews, made the Dean’s List.
The UA Dean’s and President’s Lists recognize full-time undergraduate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or to undergraduate students who take less than a full course load.
Garth Brooks concert rescheduled
Garth Brooks concert scheduled for Bank America Stadium in Charlotte has been moved from Oct. 10, 2020 to April 10, 2021, according to a report from Varnell Enterprises, Inc. The 74,000 tickets for the show sold out in 90 minutes, according to Varnell.
All tickets sold for the October show will be honored in April, according to the report.
