MONROE — The Community Shelter of Union County and Common Heart have teamed up to provide groceries to local families and individuals who are in need.
The non-profits organized a drive-thru pantry from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 12) at the Community Shelter (160 Meadow St.).
According to a social media post by the Community Shelter, 320 households picked up boxes and bags of meat, pantry staples and bread.
Volunteers placed groceries into vehicles so drivers and/or passengers would not have to get out during the coronavirus pandemic. Volunteers wore masks.
The Community Shelter and Common Heart will have a second drive-thru pantry from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 26 at the shelter.
