Walter Tonsy Norwood Jr., 85, of Waxhaw, North Carolina passed away on March 14, 2023 at Hermitage Retirement Center in Rockingham.
Funeral Service to celebrate his life will be held at 12:30 on Friday, March 17, at Davis Funeral Service Chapel with Pastor Billy Gowan officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 11 am until 12 p.m. at Davis Funeral Service prior to the service.
Born September 20, 1937 in Union County, North Carolina he was the son of the late Walter Tonsy Norwood Sr. and Artie Elizabeth Brady Norwood.
Mr. Norwood was Vice President of W. T. Norwood Inc prior to retiring. He loved his family and lived every day to its fullest. He was a wonderful father, brother, and PawPaw. His faith in Jesus was central to his life as he served in Full Gospel Businessmen, Gideon Bible Society and was a founding member and former elder of Life Church of Monroe.
Mr. Norwood was preceded in death by his wife, Flora Carole Norwood in 2017. Survivors include his children: son, Norris Norwood of Winston Salem, NC; daughters, Jill DeBerry (Tommy) of Rockingham, NC and Doris Norwood of Monroe, NC; stepson Lane Helms (Darla) of Shalotte, NC and stepdaughter Tracy Helms Plyler (William) of Waxhaw, NC; sister Pansy Mosley of Concord, NC and brothers Clyde Norwood of Waxhaw, Tommy Norwood (Phyllis) of Waxhaw, Larry Norwood (Susan) of Waxhaw, his six grandchildren, Ashley Inman, Ted Linden Helms, William “Tray” Bryan Plyler III, Christa Plyler Reynolds, Ritchie Hutton and Tucker DeBerry; and his ten great grandchildren, Zachary Helms, Savannah Helms, Austin Inman, Brayden Inman, Carah Inman, Trinity Clark, Julian Clark, Austen Plyler, Sawyer Plyler and Wyatt Plyler. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a sister Annie Norwood Plyler.
