MONROE — Two males, including a juvenile, have been charged with the shooting that occurred Monday (March 1) on Maurice Street, where Terrence Russell, age 23, was shot and later died due to his gun shot wounds.
Bryant Russell has been charged with First Degree Kidnapping, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, Discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle, and other unrelated charges, according to a report from the City of Monroe’s communications department. Russell was booked in the Union County Jail under a $290,000 secured bond after he was arrested in Matthews by detectives from the Matthews Police Department with the assistance from Monroe Police Detectives and the Union County Sheriff’s Office. The second individual is a juvenile and his name cannot be released. He was also charged with First Degree Kidnapping and Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill. The juvenile was taken to a youth detention facility.
During the investigation it was determined the victim, Terrence Russell, along with Bryant Russell, and the unnamed juvenile approached two individuals in a parked vehicle on Maurice Street looking for one of the subjects that had been involved in an assault that occurred at the Monroe Crossing Mall earlier in the day. These three subjects opened the front passenger door of the vehicle, according to the investigation, and attempted to pull the passenger out. Terrence Russell, as well as the juvenile, pointed guns toward the individuals in the vehicle while they struggled with the passenger, according to the report..
Shortly thereafter the driver of the vehicle was able to pull his handgun and discharged several rounds, striking Terrence Russell.
The driver of the vehicle then began driving away at which time both Bryant Russell and the juvenile began discharging firearms toward the vehicle. At this time there are no charges against the driver of the vehicle, however the investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.

In addition to the shooting death, a 20-year-old male suffered non-life threatening gun shot wounds on Monday stemming from the fight that occurred at Monroe Crossing Mall earlier in the day, according to the City’s communications department.
On Monday (March 1) at approximately 6:10 p.m., Monroe Police Officers responded to the 600 block of Maurice Street in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, officers reported observing what appeared to be a crime scene and later learned the victim, During the investigation, officers and detectives learned that the shooting stemmed from a fight that occurred at Monroe Crossing Mall earlier that was reported at about 4:10 p.m. the same day.
A few hours later, at approximately 7 p.m., officers responded to the 1700 block of Icemorlee Street in reference to another shooting. Upon arrival officers learned that Cameron Jordan Dawkins (20) had been transported to Atrium Union suffering from non-life threatening injuries. Investigators believe this shooting was in retaliation for the shooting that occurred on Maurice Street about an hour earlier.
Shortly after 10 p.m., officers responded to English Street in reference to shots fired but were not able to locate any evidence of a shooting. It is not immediately clear if this shooting was connected to the earlier shootings.
Union County Crimestoppers offers a reward of up to $5,000 for information that leads to arrest.
