Midway through the regular season, there is only one undefeated volleyball team left in Union County. The Sun Valley volleyball team is a perfect 7-0 on the season after sweeping Piedmont on Tuesday. The Spartans have only dropped one set out of 22 played this season, which came in a 3-1 win over Marvin Ridge last Thursday.
Head coach Rachel Henry’s team is in the driver’s seat for its first Southern Carolina Conference regular season title in 2020. The Spartans currently hold a two-match lead over both Weddington and Marvin Ridge, who are currently both 5-2.
Four Spartans already have at least 40 kills this season, led by sophomore Hailey Pearce (64). Senior Taylor Parker currently leads all county players with 54 service aces, while sophomore setter Amaya Hall is second in the county with 146 assists.
The Spartans return to action Thursday at home against Cuthbertson.

The Mavericks were led Tuesday by senior Mac Russ, who had a career-high 19 kills to bring her county-leading total up to 95 on the season. Fellow senior Katie Jamerson contributed 26 assists, and she currently leads all county players with 162 assists. Jamerson is averaging 7.7 assists per set.

The Cavaliers are now 4-2 on the year, 2.5 matches back of Sun Valley for first place in the SCC standings. Cuthbertson has won four straight after losing to Sun Valley and Marvin Ridge to open the season.
Head coach Jonathon Welsh’s team is looking to improve on a 12-13 overall season in 2019 that saw the Cavaliers finish fourth in the SCC with a conference record of 7-7. Before last season, the last time Cuthbertson finished a year below .500 was it went 8-11 overall back in 2014.
