INDIAN TRAIL — Juniors Kendal Smith and Abigale Carmer combined for a no-hitter and five strikeouts in the Spartans’ 18-0 home win over Lee Park Prep on Tuesday (March 14).
The Spartans improved their record to 3-1. They have outscored their opponents by a combined 52-7 during their three-game winning streak.
Junior Camie Jones (2-of-4) and sophomore Jordan Vaughn (2-of-4) each had two RBI.
Sun Valley has already matched last season’s win total (3-15).
The Spartans play at Lee Park Prep on Friday, March 17.
Union Academy 22, Robinson 1
The Union Academy Charter School softball team opened Yadkin Valley Conference play with a 22-1 home win over J.M. Robinson on Tuesday (March 14) in five innings.
The Cardinals, who improved to 6-0 overall, have scored 68 runs this season and allowed six. They have scored at least 10 runs in each of the last three games.
Against the Bulldogs (0-5), the Cardinals scored 19 runs in the first two innings. Sophomore Addison Laney was 4-of-5 at the plate.
Senior Gracie Hollingworth (3-of-3 hitting), and senior Gabriella Gama (2-of-3) had three RBI each. Sophomores Keira Farmer (3-of-3), Paisley Boatright (1-of-3), and Avery Chaney (1-of-2), junior Shelby Brooks (1-of-1), and senior Tori Mattison (2-of-2) had two RBI each.
Hollingsworth, who has signed to play at Evansville, struck out five batters, and freshman Avery Wilson struck out six.
Union Academy is at J.M. Robinson Thursday.
Piedmont 8, Anson 6
Piedmont scored five runs in the fourth inning.
Anson scored four runs in the sixth inning, but their road rally came up short on Tuesday night.
The Panthers, now 5-2, scored their first run in the second inning on a groundout from junior Kloie Greene (1-of-4). Junior Emily Polk started a fourth inning scoring spree with a RBI walk, followed by an Anson error and a RBI single by senior Ava Elkins (2-of-4, two RBI).
Five Panthers had one RBI: sophomore Jailyn Thomas (1-of-1), junior Addi Lockrum (1-of-3), sophomore Bristol Outen (1-of-4), Greene, and Polk.
Marvin Ridge 6, Parkwood 2
After a loss at Cannon last week, Marvin Ridge got back on track with a 6-2 win at Parkwood Tuesday night.
Sophomore Addison Studney (2-of-4) got the Mavericks (4-1) broke a tiein the fifth inning with a RBI single. Senior Ashlyn Roberts (2-of-3) had two RBI on the night, and sophomore Anna Phifer (1-of-4), juniors Taylor Erb (1-of-3) and Anna McGowan and Studney each had one RBI.
Freshman Grayce Marvel (2-of-4) and senior Madison Long each had RBI singles for the Wolfpack.
McGowan (five hits, two allowed runs) earned the win in the circle for Marvin Ridge. The loss dropped Parkwood to 2-5.
Porter Ridge 14, CATA 2
Porter Ridge improved to 3-1 with Tuesday’s win over the Cougars.
Junior Natalya Salo (2-of-3) had three RBI, and Madison Stamper (1-of-3) and Kiersten Helms (2-of-2) had two RBI each. Salo earned the win in the circle after striking out four batters and allowing five hits.
Sophomore Katelyn Easterly was 2-for-3 with two RBI for CATA.
