MONROE — The boys soccer team at Monroe High advanced to the second round of the 2A playoffs with a 3-0 home win over Bandys on Monday. The Redhawks have won six matches in a row, improving their overall record to 11-9-1.
The Redhawks have six shutouts this season, including three during their current win streak. Bandys completes its season with a 15-8 record.
Monroe got goals from senior Jose Alcauter as well as juniors Za’Quavion Wall and Alex Jose. The Redhawks got assists from seniors Angel Valenzuela and Victor Lopez.
Jose has a team-high 21 goals in 21 matches this season and Wall has 18 goals. Lopez now has a team-high 14 assists this year.
Monroe, which tied for second in the Rocky River Conference (7-2-1), will play at Forbush (17-4 overall record) in the second round on Thursday, Nov. 4.
Central Academy shut out North Davidson with a 4-0 home win in the first round of the 3A boys soccer playoffs on Monday.
It was the Cougars’ 11th shutout of the season.
CATA, which won the Rocky River 2A/3A Conference with an 8-1-1 record, is now 14-6-3 overall.
Central Academy will host Ledford (16-2-3) in the second round on Thursday.
Jackets take forfeit
Forest Hills advanced in the 2A playoffs by taking a forfeit against Walkertown in the first round on Monday.
The Yellow Jackets, who tied for second in the RRC with a 7-2-1 record, travels to undefeated Lincolnton (17-0-3) in the second round on Thursday.
Warriors blank Ragsdale
Weddington High’s boys soccer team advanced in the 4A playoffs with a 5-0 home win over Ragsdale on Monday (Nov. 1). It was the Warriors’ sixth shutout of the season, improving their record to 13-3-3 overall.
The Warriors, champions of the Southern Carolina Conference, play Mount Tabor (18-3-1) in the second round on Thursday, Nov. 4.
Cougars eliminate PR
Porter Ridge, which finished second in the SCC standings (6-1-3 in SCC), was eliminated by Charlotte Catholic, 4-1, in the first round on Monday.
The Pirates finish their season with a 14-3-4 overall record.
South Meck knocks out CHS
South Mecklenburg needed overtime to defeat Cuthbertson, 3-2, in the first round on Monday.
Senior Anthony Brown and junior Matthew Perez each scored a goal for the Cavaliers and senior Wilson Schmidhausler contributed an assist.
The Cavaliers, who finished third in the SCC with a 7-3 record, complete their season with a 10-7-1 overall record.
Cuthbertson will lose its top two goal scorers — senior Billy Soares (18 goals) and Brown (8 goals).
Lake Norman advances
Lake Norman pulled out a 1-0 home win over Sun Valley in the first round of the 4A playoffs.
The Wildcats, who won the Greater Metro Conference, improved their record to 16-3-3 overall; they travel to Ardrey Kell in the second round on Thursday.
Gryphons eliminate UA
Thomas Jefferson defeated Union Academy, 2-1, in three overtimes in the first round of the 1A playoffs on Thursday.
Sophomore James Rogers scored an unassisted goal for the Cardinals.
Union Academy placed second in the Yadkin Valley 1A/2A Conference with a 10-2 record and completed the season with a 14-6 overall record.
