Weddington High’s boys soccer team earned its fourth shutout of the season in a 1-0 road win over Cuthbertson on Wednesday. The Warriors improved to 11-3-2 overall and remain at the top of the Southern Carolina Conference (SCC) standings.

The Warriors, who have won four straight matches, got the only goal of the game from JP Linner; Will Lassiter had the assist.

Weddington coach Powell Williams said he has “concerns about consistency.”

“They outplayed us in the second half,” Williams said.

WHS goalkeeper Zack Beausoleil had four saves in the shutout.

Weddington travels to second-place Porter Ridge on Monday, Oct. 25. Cuthbertson, which dropped to 8-6-1 overall, will travel to Sun Valley on Monday.

Sun Valley 2, Piedmont 0Head coach Austin Knight’s team improved to 11-7-3 with a 2-0 road win at Piedmont on Thursday. The victory jumped the Spartans to fourth place in the SCC standings.

Senior Rami Zeitouni punched in the first goal in the first half while Chase Crabtree added an insurance goal. Zeitouni is second on the team in goals scored (12). Crabtree and Cyrus Arneson tallied one assist each while goalkeeper Ben Sandoval finished with 11 saves.

Sun Valley will host Cuthbertson on Monday. Piedmont (6-11-2) is also at home on Monday, against Marvin Ridge.

Forest Hills 3, West Stanly 1After a competitive first half, Humberto Dominguez scored two unanswered goals to help the Yellow Jackets defeat the West Stanly Colts 3-1 on the road on Thursday night. The victory keeps the Jackets atop the Rocky River Conference standings.

Within the first few seconds of the game, senior Kevin Rodriguez put the Jackets up 1-0 on a free-kick. Teammates Cristian Jimenez and Alonso Gomez contributed one assist each for Forest Hills.

The Yellow Jackets, who improved to 13-3-3, will host Anson on Monday.

Union Academy 4, Mount Pleasant 0The Cardinals (12-5) handled the Mount Pleasant Tigers, 4-0, at home to go on a three-game win streak on Wednesday night. Once again, it was a collaborative team effort to stay alive in second place in Yadkin Valley Conference play.

Liam MacKinnon had two goals and two assists to lead the Cardinals, and Corbin Esquivel scored two goals for UA. Freshman Dhruv Srinivasan and junior Evan Mitchell contributed one assist each, and keeper Patrick MacKinnon had three saves for the Cardinals.

Union Academy will host North Stanly on Monday.
