If you wanted proof that this year’s Charlotte Hornets are different from years past, look no further than Wednesday night, when the Hornets defeated the Philadelphia 76ers, 109-98, on the road.
The win snapped a 16-game losing streak for Charlotte against Philadelphia. Before Wednesday, the Hornets’ last win in the series came in 2016. Charlotte held the longest active losing streak to one team in the NBA before Wednesday night.
The Hornets were led by veteran forward Gordon Hayward, who had a team-high 30 points on 13-of-16 shooting. Terry Rozier (22) and Miles Bridges (21) also scored more than 20 points.
Point guard LaMelo Ball had an off shooting night, scoring 13 points on 5-of-16 shooting, including 0-of-8 from 3-point range. Ball also had eight assists, seven rebounds and just one turnover.
Charlotte was without sixth-man Kelly Oubre on Wednesday. The wing entered COVID-19 protocol before Monday’s game against Milwaukee.
After improving to 23-19, Charlotte moved into seventh in the Eastern Conference standings.
