MONROE — Nine Union County high school wrestlers have achieved at least 20 wins this season.

Of the County wrestlers who have reached the 20-win club already, four are from Weddington, including: senior 195-pounder Janyd Houghton (23-0), senior 145-pounder Devin King (21-4), sophomore 106-pounder Alex King (20-2) and junior 120-pounder Carter Bockenstedt (20-5),

Parkwood is also well represented with three wrestlers having at least 22 wins in the 2021-22 season. Freshman Kyle Simpson, who was the first County wrestler to reach 20 wins this season, has a 23-4 record in the 120-pound weight class and senior Caleb Simpson, who wrestles at 152, is 22-3. Parkwood junior 132-pounder Chayton Tala shares the team lead in wins with a 23-7 record.

Dalton Renfroe, a senior 182-pounder for perennial powerhouse Piedmont, has a 21-6 record so far this season and teammate Aaron Goodman, a junior who wrestles in the 285-pound weight class, is 21-5.
