The Sun Valley football team picked up its first conference win of the season Friday with a 42-14 beatdown of Piedmont at home.
The Spartans (2-5, 1-1 SCC) earned just their second win of the year and their fourth since the start of the 2019 season. Sun Valley’s 42 points were the most it has scored in a game since a 45-25 win over the Panthers on Nov. 2, 2018.
Leading the way offensively for Sun Valley was junior running back Toney McFadden, who carried the ball 20 times for 204 yards and three touchdowns. Sophomore quarterback Brady Turriff completed 13-of-19 passes for 155 yards and two touchdowns.
The loss drops Piedmont to 2-5 overall and 0-2 in Southern Carolina Conference play. The Panthers have lost three straight games since a 34-28 win over Fort Mill on Sept. 10.
Sun Valley will have its hands full Friday night as it hits the road to take on Weddington. Piedmont, meanwhile, plays Marvin Ridge the same night.
Forest Hills 52, Anson 0
The Forest Hills football team steamrolled Anson, 52-0, at home Friday night to get back above .500 on the season at 4-3 overall.
The 52-point win was the Yellow Jackets’ largest margin of victory since a 66-0 victory over Central Academy on Oct. 27, 2017. Prior to Friday’s game, Forest Hills was averaging 21.5 points per game.
The Yellow Jackets will return to the field Friday at home against West Stanly. Forest Hills has lost three straight to the Colts, including a 21-0 loss this past spring.
Metrolina 20, Hickory Grove Christian 6
The Metrolina football team improved to 6-1 on the season with a 14-point win over Hickory Grove Christian on Friday. The Warriors have won four straight games since a 44-10 loss to Charlotte Latin on Sept. 3.
Metrolina built up a 13-0 lead after the first half and never looked back. Both of the Warriors first-half scores came thanks to senior Caleb Titherington, who reached the end zone on a 44-yard punt return for a touchdown and a 12-yard run in the second quarter.
The Warriors will try to make it five straight wins Friday night as it hosts High Point Christian. Metrolina is 7-1 all-time against High Point Christian, but the Warriors did lose to the Cougars, 40-21, in their last meeting on Sept. 24, 2020.
...Odds and ends...
...Monroe had its Friday game cancelled. The Redhawks will play two games this week, the first against Anson on Tuesday and the second against Parkwood on Friday.
