Cuthbertson senior Maddie Dillinger (22) was named The Enquirer-Journal's 2020-21 Preseason Player of the Year after averaging 13.7 points and 6.4 rebounds per game as a junior last season.

After separating themselves as the bonafide top team in the county the past several seasons, the Cuthbertson girls basketball team placed a county-high three players on The Enquirer-Journal’s 2020-21 All-County teams.

The Cavaliers are led by senior forward Maddie Dillinger, who was the only Cavalier to earn first-team honors while being recognized as the E-J’s 2020-21 Preseason Union County Player of the Year. Dillinger is the reigning county player of the year and is looking to improve on a junior campaign that saw her average 13.7 points, 6.4 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

The Lenoir-Rhyne commit is joined on the all-county teams by teammates Ruby Williams and Reagan Iovino. Iovino was named third-team all-county following the 2019-20 season after averaging 9.9 points per game and leading all county players with 80 made 3-pointers.

Cuthbertson is the only team with three players on the preseason all-county teams, but Forest Hills is the only county team with multiple players on the E-J’s 1st team. Both sophomore guard Jamyah Blakeney and senior forward Hope Benson rep the Yellow Jackets on the first team after helping lead Forest Hills to its second straight Rocky River Conference title in 2019-20. Blakeney is the conference’s reigning player of the year after averaging 13.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.9 steals per game last season.

Other teams to place two players on the preseason all-county teams are Union Academy, Parkwood and Weddington. The Cardinals are led by reigning county scoring champion Savanna Brooks, who made the first team after averaging 19.4 points per game in 2019-20. Parkwood junior guard Skymia Taylor also made the first team after averaging 12.6 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game last season.

While Weddington didn’t place anyone on the first team, the Warriors have a pair of all-county selections in seniors Miranda Barron (second team) and Emily Cunningham (third team). Both players will be expected to step up with last season’s top scorer — Karrah Katzbach — no longer on the team.

Teams with one preseason all-county selection include Porter Ridge, Marvin Ridge, Piedmont and Central Academy. The Pirates are represented by sophomore Jyana Salton, who earned second-team honors after averaging 13.2 points and 5.8 rebounds per game as a freshman in 2019-20.

The Mavericks, Panthers and Cougars each had one player selected to the preseason all-county third team — Marvin Ridge junior Kyndall Shivers, Piedmont junior Natalie Evans and CATA sophomore Zoie Jordan.
