Former Weddington High basketball star Ryan Schwieger is playing well for Loyola-Chicago.
On Monday, Schwieger, a 6-foot-7 senior wing, was named the Missouri Valley Conference men’s basketball Newcomer of the Week. This is the second time this season Schwieger has won the award.
He averaged 18.5 points, 3.5 rebounds and 1 steal per game last week while leading his team to wins over San Francisco and Bradley. Schwieger scored a season-high 24 points on 9-of-10 shooting in the Ramblers’ win over San Francisco.
Through 14 games, Schwieger is tied for the team lead at 12 points per game. He is the only reserve on the team averaging more than 8.0 points per game.
Tyson playing well for Clemson
Former Piedmont High 3-star recruit Hunter Tyson has scored in double digits in five of Clemson’s last six games. For the season, he’s averaging 11.6 points and 6.1 rebounds per game while shooting 49.6% from the field and 39.2% from 3-point range.
A 6-foot-8 forward, Tyson ranks second on the team in scoring and rebounding. Clemson is 10-6 overall and 2-3 in ACC play. The Tigers play Boston College on Saturday and face Syracuse on the road Tuesday.
Mason shooting well
Former Sun Valley guard Karli Mason is averaging 11.8 points per game for the Greensboro College women’s basketball team.
Mason has made a team-high 43 3-pointers on 111 attempts (38.7%). She’s also averaged 3.5 rebounds and more than two assists per game.
Greensboro College is currently 12-1 overall. Mason’s 1.7 steals per game rank third on the team.
