Barbara Belk Totty, 77, of Hickory, N.C. passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023 at her home, after a brief illness.
Barbara was a kind and thoughtful soul. She will be missed and remembered by the many lives she touched. She loved being a mother and cherished being a Nana to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Barbara was born on June 9, 1945 in Monroe, she was the daughter of the late Ruth Haigler and Uriah Tilden Belk Jr. Barbara was the oldest of the couple’s four daughters and was raised in Monroe, and graduated from Piedmont High School in 1963. She married the love of her life, James (Jimmy) L. Totty in November of 1965.
Barbara and Jimmy went on to have two sons, James (Lee) Totty Jr. and his wife Monica and William (Bill) Coleman Totty. Barbara loved children and she was blessed with four grandchildren, Nicole Camp and husband Justin Camp, James Lee Totty III, Kara Totty and David Totty and two great-grandchildren, Carlie Hicks and Jaxson Camp. She is also survived by her three sisters, Mary Lou Belk Starnes and her husband Dale, Mary Elizabeth Long, Sue Ellen Lampley and her husband Sid, along with many nieces and nephews.
Barbara worked for Capps Foster CPA, Hickory for fifteen years and after her retirement she volunteered at First Baptist Church. She loved traveling with her group of friends, called The Hickory Rainmakers, singing in the choir, volunteering at the church and dancing.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 19, at 3:00 o’clock at First Baptist Church in Hickory, NC, with Rev. Joshua Barrett officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church from 2:00 p.m. until 2:45 p.m.
The family requests donations be made to Carolina Caring (Hospice) in lieu of flowers.
