-Letters Policy-
The Enquirer-Journal welcomes letters to the editor about issues affecting Union County.
The newspaper tries to publish all letters, although that is not always possible. Preferred length is 300 words. Please include your signature, address and telephone number where we can reach you to verify the letter or to answer any questions.
You may fill out the email form below, send letters by mail to: The Enquirer-Journal
PO Box 5040
500 W. Jefferson St.
Monroe, NC 28111
Or by fax to: (704) 289-2929
We reserve the right to edit for libel, length and clarity.
All letters must be signed by individuals, not groups. Anonymous letters will not be published. When a letter is signed by several people, only one or two people's names will be used.
Letters must be of general public interest. Complaints or compliments that deal with private matters will not be used. "Thank you" letters will be published only when they have general public interest and will face sharp editing to remove lists of businesses or individuals who donated to or supported a cause.
Letters must be the original work of the authors. Form letters will not be accepted. Letters that extensively quote other written material will be edited to keep quoted material to a minimum.
When a subject generates numerous letters to the editor, some letters may not be published or may be heavily edited.
Letters to the editor headlines, which must meet certain space and style restrictions, are written by The Enquirer-Journal. Letter writers can suggest headlines, but their suggestions will not necessarily be followed.
During political campaigns, letters endorsing candidates will be accepted. Such letters should focus on issues and the candidates' qualifications.
